The Department of Zoology is established in 1983. The department has run the zoology course for B.Sc. (I II and III) and M.Sc. (I and II) classes. Through enquiry, exploration and experiential learning, the department aims to produce graduates fully conversant with biological principles and rigorously trained in skills of reasoning, hypothesis generation, reading and writing, and practical techniques, so that they are competent and versatile in dealing with future demands. The department aims to promote varied academic and research programs focused on contemporary issues and basic and applied concepts in Zoology, with particular emphases on ecology, evolution, physiology, genetics, developmental biology, cell biology and molecular biology and aim to provide consultative expertise in solving problems relating to interactions among humans, plants, animals and the environment. The department also runs the various short term courses of Vermitechnology and Apiculture. The aim to start this applied courses to provide job and self-employment among the students. The percentage of results of university examinations of the department is always more than the university results and it is approximately 100 percentage every year. The department has two separate laboratories for B.Sc. students and One Laboratory for M.Sc. Students and they are well equipped with advance research instruments viz. PCR, GEL Doc, Electrophoresis unit, etc.
The department of Zoology is one of the leading science department of the college. The Department is sponsored by DST – FIST and RUSA, under these funding agencies department has purchased various equipment required for practical as well as research purposes for the faculty and students. From the academic year, 2019 -2020 to the present date overall development of the department has increased because of the use of different teaching aids. From 2018 to 2024 we have organized 02 International Conferences 06 National workshops, webinars and 09 state-level workshops, and conferences etc., Through these workshops and conferences, we have organized near about 46 guest lectures of various eminent personalities from life sciences.
Apart from the university design curriculum, every year department is organizing hands-on training programs on applied zoology such as Vermitechnology, Apiculture, Goat farming etc., the results of all these programs are printed on the final result of the students, every year department has achieved 100 % results in the university examination.
The department has MoUs with various organizations, which help in quality enhancement as well as the placement of students. The department also runs various short-term courses (Vermitechnology) in collaboration with local farms. The main aim to start this applied course is to provide jobs and self-employment to the students.
The department is also focusing on research and development. To inculcate research interest among the students and faculty, the department is organizing various workshops, research competitions, etc., results of these activities are two students of our departments who have achieved second prize at the district level and third prize in the university level Avishkar competition. The faculties of our department also have the best research performance. From 2018 to 2024 department has published 30 individual research papers in well-reputed international journals (UGC care listed). The faculty has good citations and h index for their research papers. The faculty of our department has also published One Reference Book on Practical Zoology.
To inherit amongst the students the highest values of life, respect for Nature and to inculcate sound acquisition of knowledge of animal sciences through quality educational practices and research.
